Kumquats and Egg Cup

Well, it feels like ages since I did a small painting! I have been fighting a cold and it has made me stupid! It is hard to do a good painting when you are stupid and I would not think of boring everyone with the bad ones! This shows a bit of recovery, I think... perhaps because the egg cup is so jolly and because kumquats are always wonderful!

Trio

More flowers from Malibu. Now I see why everyone loves southern California! Today the sun was shining brightly as I was painting at Point Lobos but it was windy and cold. This makes me think of summer!

Kumquats & Demitasse

More Malibu citrus! Huge and delicious kumquats are so cheerful next to the blue and white cup. I think I may do a series. In the meantime, all the vitamin C laden fruits are curing my cough!

Sweet Peas

This is my great-grandmother's perfume bottle with an assortment of flowers (including sweet peas) from my friend in Malibu! They have spring down there already while up in Carmel, the winter winds are blowing down the chimney and our sweet peas are only a few inches high!

Big Lemon, Tiny Car

I have been painting flowers all day so this looked like a nice change. Of course, starting a painting at 10pm may not be the best idea! However, I had a lot of fun painting the tiny car!

Light the Way

Well, I thought this would be quick and easy but I guess that after a day of painting outside, my eyes were crossed! The whole thing took longer than I had planned and then I couldn't seem to take a photo that was both in focus and non-glare. arrgh! Anyway, after all that, I went out to walk the dog (with a flashlight, not a candle) and saw all the stars and the big dipper overhead... So it was worth staying up late finishing a painting and taking a photo of it if I could have such a nice nighttime walk!

Mr Bird is back! This time, he is standing next to an enormous Meyer Lemon from Malibu. Look at the beautiful leaves on that lemon!

A Gift From Malibu

A friend sent me a huge surprise box full of citrus fruits from her own trees and it arrived today. There were juicy oranges, lemons as big as baseballs, limes with stems and leaves, lovely orange blossoms, and these amazing kumquats! I just had to paint them!

I love this view of the Moss Landing Power Plant from across the fields so I just had to do a quick study yesterday! Then today, a friend spoke of her mother who for many years wrote a weekly column about Moss Landing for the Monterey Herald. One of those coincidences...

Looking For Spring

Mr Goldfinch is back with a little blue vase filled with oxalis. Native Californians seem to hate this flower but I like it because it is a wonderful color and one of the first flowers to appear in the spring. 6x8 inches

Hot Stuff

Spent all morning out in the windchill painting some Calla Lilies rather unsucessfully. Had to warm up with Mr Pepper!

A Tweet For You

An old fashioned tweet is coming from this motion-activated mechanical bird. He is very realistic and his song is, they say, authentic. 6x8 inches.

More cool 6x6 paintings! This old anchovy can has been crying out to be painted for ages. You can tell it's been a while because I don't think they make them with keys anymore!
